1.Does GekTV offer parental locks? Can it apply to all channels?
Yes, you can use it on all channels. You can go to the Set Up page and set parental locks on any channel. A password will then be required to unlock the channel for viewing.
2.How are program ratings determined?
GekTV will reference both Hong Kong and the U.S. program ratings for both films and TV series.
3.What are the prices for dramas and movies purchases under the VOD and HQ/HQX section?
The prices vary. All prices are listed in the EPG.
4.Will live broadcast and VOD take up any hard drive space?
No, it will not. Only HQ/HQX downloads utilize your unit’s hard drive space.
5.How does ‘HQ/HQX Downloads’ work?
In order to watch High Quality Downloads, you will need to select, purchase and download the whole movie before viewing. The viewing period for all High Quality Downloads is 3 days (72 hours), beginning as soon as you press “play”. If you do not play the downloaded content, it will be automatically deleted from the hard drive in 14 days, but the fee for the downloaded content will still be charged even if it is not activated for viewing.
6.How long does High Quality (HQ/HQX)Download take?
Depending on your broadband connection speed and the content duration, download can take anywhere from 3 to 7 hours.
7.How do you charge for HQ/HQX Downloads? Will I be charged upon completion of the download, or only when I watch it? What if I somehow end up not watching it? Will you still charge me after it is automatically erased?
Your HQ Download is charged once you pressed the “Buy” button before download begins. If you do not watch it, then you will still have to pay for the content even if it’s erased automatically after 2 weeks.
8.What will happen to a download if there is a power failure?
Once power is restored, the download will continue from the cutoff point. This is digitally managed for no loss of quality.
9.Can I store my downloaded programs somewhere else?
GekTV subscribers cannot transfer downloaded programs from the hard drive to any other devices.
10.Can I turn off the receiver while I am downloading?
You may put the receiver on DOWNLOAD MODE (press the download button on the remote control) or
STANDBY MODE (press the orange button on the remote control).
We do not recommend turning off the GekTV receiver unless you are moving the unit to another location. The on/off switch is located at the back of the GekTV receiver.
11.Can I download and watch GekTV channels at the same time?
No. Downloads will stop while you watch GekTV programs or channels and will continue only when you are not streaming the content.
12.What time does GekTV update the receiver unit each day?
Daily at 4:00am(West Coast Time)
13.Can I unplug the power cord or turn off the receiver after finish watching GekTV?
After finish watching GekTV, just simply press the orange button on the remote to set the receiver in STANDBY MODE.
The receiver is required to be in standby mode during the daily update period.
14.Why does the word “reboot” keep showing on the receiver unit?
Turn off the receiver, and then turn it back on (Usually the word “reboot” appears after the receiver is updated). The on/off switch is located at the back of the GekTV receiver.
15.If I need to reboot my receiver, can I just turn off the power switch on the back and turn it on again? How long should I wait before I turn it back on?
First press the orange button on the remote control to set the receiver in STANDBY MODE.
After that, press the green button on the remote and wait till the receiver displays “SHUTDOWN”.
Then turn off the power switch on the back and wait about 10 seconds before turning it back on.
16.When I turn on my GekTV receiver again after a system reboot, my TV screen is black. What should I do?
After rebooting the receiver unit, wait at least 30 seconds. If your TV screen is still black after 10 minutes or more, please contact GekTV Customer Support.
17.Will receiving of GekTV signal be affected if I browse the Internet at the same time?
Yes. The GekTV signal is delivered via the Internet, so its speed will be affected if your computer is downloading files or surfing the net at the same time.
18.I keep seeing the word "BUFFERING" on the television screen when watching GekTV programs, and sometimes the program discontinues. Why?
There are two possible reasons:
a. Your Internet connection speed is not fast enough. GekTV recommends a minimum of 3.0 Mbps connection speed. Or
b. There is a lack of bandwidth as other electronic devices can be using the same Internet connection for surfing the net, downloading files, etc.
